I've been tablet shopping for a while. And I've been impressed with the polish that is the iPad. But I really like Google services. I really thought that the Motorola Xoom would be the tablet that would make me take the plunge. Just looking at the specs of that device was impressive. Specs however, didn't seem to woe reviewers. And I must say, that when I held one in my hand, I couldn't believe the heft of the device. As I write this, there have been a few Android Tablets either released in the last seven days or will release by summer. The Asus Transformer really piqued my interest. Xoom-comparable hardware, an optional keyboard for a price less than the Xoom. But then I looked at the Honeycomb Operating System. Powerful, but still lacking. Then, there is the apps thing. iPad has thousands available while there might be 100 currently optimized for Android.

But why two, you ask? Well, I've talked to this point about me, but not about my wife. Who, by the way, happens to already love iOS4 and her iPhone. When she and I talked about getting a tablet, she made a very valid point: whatever we got, we would fight over it. It didn't take me long to realize just how prophetic that vision of hers was! So if I was going to get her a tablet, I knew she would be happiest with an iPad.
So out came the credit card, as I surfed over to Apple.com to take a serious plunge. With a two week wait, adding personal engraving wasn't going to add anything to the shipping date.. So I chose a 32 gigger, black face, with "His" engraved. "Hers" is a white 16 gigger.
Since I already had an iTunes account with my iPod touch, I quickly started surfing for iPad apps. I have several lined up, ready to be installed when my shiny new tech toy arrives. I won't be reviewing the iPad 2. There are only like 400,900,000 on the net now. You can go read them, but let me save you some trouble, as they almost all say the same thing. "The new one improves on the old one"
I will be sharing my thoughts on the device as time goes by. I've already decided to add iOS app features here much like I do with Android apps.
And I'm also seeing an opportunity to compare cross-platform apps such as Qik, and TiLK, so be expecting reviews of those apps in the near future.
I know that I have given up some of my "Google" functionality within iPad. I just haven't figured out how big of a deal that is going to be for me. When I do figure it out, you'll know. . . . . . .
