Last Week I pondered about the future of the Google's Chrome Operating System. I'm feeling that it might be a a yawner. However, with that said, no one really seems to know at this point. But questions are about to be answered as Google is ready to unveil it's new OS to the World and has announced a press event to be held, Dec 7th in San Francisco. Engadget has uncovered what appears to be the keyboard that will accompany this new OS. It certainly isn't a Windows Keyboard! "Search" has replaced the "Tab" key. Hardware controls are located in the top row, to navigate forward/backward, adjust brightness of the display and control the volume.
One thing missing is a voice search. Now, I haven't read that it would be included in Chrome, but I really expected to see the search giant include it's voice search within this OS and to drive home the point, give it it's own button. But I'm also wondering that when one pushes that search button, it they won't see that little microphone icon by the search field as it is in Android.
I'm anxious to see just what it is about Chrome that will set it apart from current offerings in Netbook hardware and software. Yea, 7 second boot times are nice! I'm expecting an app store, closely tied to Google Services, and new measures in security. But I'm really wanting to hear the price of this device. Netbooks are hitting around the $300 mark. Full-fledged notebooks can be had around the $400 mark, that includes DVD re-write and more. If this thing is intro'ed at $500 or beyond, I'm thinking suddenly, that very limited iPad or Samsung tab that I think are both very over-priced suddenly don't look as expensive as they did a few weeks ago.
