When I upgraded to the Atrix, I lost an ability to use my device as a wireless hotspot. This is, of course a feature that AT&T blocks . Wireless tether is something that I don't need often, but it's still something that when needed sure is nice to have. And then there were other features that are available to root users that I thought I could take advantage of. In general these are performance tweaks, handy apps such as screen capture apps that require root, and the ability to have more options. I'm thinking it's time.
- Download 32-bit or 64-bit Drivers for your Atrix. (you probably already have them from the initial sync with your Atrix)
- Download GingerBreak.exe
- You will also need an SD card inserted on your Atrix, as the file that you will install are set to install to your card and not your Atrix.
- Install the appropriate Drivers on your PC. Download GingerBreak.exe onto your PC. (do not run GingerBread.exe at this time)
- On your Atrix, go to Menu, Settings, Applications, Development and check "USB Debugging".
- Plug your Atrix into your PC via the USB Cable. On your Atrix, pull down the menu from the Top and select "USB Connection". Select "NONE"
- On your PC, run Gingerbreak.exe installer.
- On your Atrix, you should see an application call "GingerBreak".

- Click "GingerBreak" to run the Root App.

- Congrats! You have just rooted your Atrix. This will add an App called "Superuser". This is where all apps that require root will reside. Enjoy!
